January 17. The Fall and Rise of Architectural Education / National Civic Art Society

Lecture by Christine Franck

2012 NCAS Lecture Series

January 17, 2013

In 1996 the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching published “Building Community: A New Future for Architecture Education and Practice,” which is commonly referred to as the Boyer Mitgang report. In this report examining the state of architectural education and practice, the authors emphasize the public benefit of architecture and call for architects to prepare for careers of greater civic engagement. Most schools of architecture have failed to heed this call, but some new programs and institutions are changing for the better. Franck will take a critical look at today’s architectural education and its future.
