Professional Sports Team Walk Score — Urban Design Associates

The location of professional sports venues is often a hot topic, particularly in cities that are looking to develop new arenas and stadiums.  Multi-modal access is highly desirable for these venues, the ability to arrive by automobile, transit, bicycle, or walking.  For some teams, construction of new facilities in neighborhoods has stimulated adjacent development and contributed to the life of the city. Other teams have located sports venues in isolation removed from walkable neighborhoods.

Walk Score is used by the real estate profession to measure the number of nearby amenities to a particular location.  This method of scoring has become a leading indicator of whether people walk. We decided to apply the algorithms developed by Walk Score to professional sports facilities for MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL and rank each team by their Walk Score.  We also included the transit and bicycle ranking if available for those facilities.
